Rosalind Wyatt

These paintings are inspired by words. Since an early age I have studied philosophy and meditation and this has shaped my life and work. I want to discover who I really am; my true nature and my role in this world. This has led me to read ancient texts some of which stir the soul through simple poetic language.
Different aspects of personal experience come through my work - like in the series 'Purusha'. Described in the Upanishad as 'the ruler in the heart', the Purusha dwells in each of us.
Rosalind Wyatt recently produced work for Nicky Haslam for a Russian project.

The meaning of a chosen text always informs the script on the pieces - the marks all say something, the impact being placed on an emotional response before a rational response - this is why the text sometimes seems illegible. The canvas is made and prepared in layers; firstly fabric, then paper which can be painted, written and stitched.

Since graduating from The Royal College of Art in 2001, I have worked from my studio in west London. I have exhibited in galleries and shows throughout the UK and once in the US. Most of my commissions are from private collectors - people who have become friends.
